- Keita Mori, MBA, Co-CEO, Chairman, Co-Founder
- Mr. Mori has been Co-Chief Executive Officer and has served as a member of the Board since SanBio's inception in 2001. Prior to founding SanBio, Mr. Mori was Head of New Product Development from 2000 to 2001 at Xuma, an informatics startup in San Francisco. From 1993 to 1999, Mr. Mori held positions of increasing responsibility in R&D and Manufacturing at Kirin Brewery, Ltd. in Japan. Mr. Mori has an MBA degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a master's degree in Biochemistry from University of Tokyo.
- Toru Kawanishi, Co-CEO, Co-Founder
- Mr. Kawanishi served as SanBio's Chairman of the Board from 2001 to 2005 and has been Co-Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board since 2005. Prior to founding SanBio, Mr. Kawanishi co-founded CareNet, Inc. (TSE: 2150) and was Executive Vice President from 1996 to 1999. At CareNet, Mr. Kawanishi established eHealthcare in Japan. From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Kawanishi was a management consultant at Boston Consulting Group. Mr. Kawanishi has a master's degree in Biochemistry from University of Tokyo.
- Casey C. Case, Ph.D., Vice President, Research
- Dr. Case joined SanBio in 2006. From 1997 to 2005, Dr. Case was Vice President, Research and Development at Sangamo Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ-SGMO), a gene therapy company. At Sangamo, Dr. Case built and led the scientific team, established partnerships with over 20 pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and represented the company on the IPO road show with the CEO, raising $60M. Prior to Sangamo, Dr. Case held Director positions at Tularik (1993 to 1997) and OSI Pharmaceuticals (1989 to 1993). Dr. Case has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of California, Davis and has 40 issued patents.
- Ernest W. Yankee, Ph.D., Vice President, Development and Regulatory Affairs
- Dr. Yankee, Vice President, Development and Regulatory Affairs, joined SanBio in 2007. Dr. Yankee has over 30 years of biopharmaceutical product development experience, mostly in development and regulatory affairs. From 2001 to 2007, Dr. Yankee was Executive Vice President and Corporate Officer at Agennix and was Executive Vice President and Corporate Officer at AVAX Technologies from 1996 to 2001. He held positions of increasing responsibility at Pharmacia (Upjohn) from 1970 to 1996, leaving the company as Director, International Medical Development. Dr. Yankee has significantly contributed to obtaining marketing approval for a number of products including Zyvox®, Rescriptor®, Cleocin® and Covert®. At AVAX, Dr. Yankee developed and advanced cell therapy products M-Vax™ and O-Vax™ from filing INDs to Phase II and pivotal registration trials. At Agennix, Dr. Yankee developed a recombinant human protein from filing of INDs through Phase II in several indications. Dr. Yankee has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has 127 issued patents.
- Michael P. McGrogan, Ph.D., Vice President, Production Development
- Dr. McGrogan joined SanBio in 2003. Dr. McGrogan has over 25 years of biopharmaceutical R&D and production development experience. Prior to joining SanBio, Dr. McGrogan was Vice President of Research and Development at Layton BioScience (1996 to 2003). At Layton, Dr. McGrogan successfully managed the first cell therapy product to enter clinical trial for CNS applications, LBS-Neuron, from inception to a Phase II clinical trial. Prior to Layton, Dr. McGrogan held positions of increasing responsibility at several biotech companies including Berlex Biosciences, Invitron and Cetus. Dr. McGrogan has a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri.
